DMDL Theatrical Services was first conceived by Matthew Lee and Dave Dallard in the 1997.

Dave and Matt came together to do the lighting for a school production at Wilsthorpe Community School, "Tin Pan Ali", and soon became friends, sharing their interests and knowledge about technical theatre. This first show saw Dave doing lighting with Matt as an assistant, using the basic school equipment.

It was during this show that the name DMDL was derived from the initials of Dave Dallard and Matthew Lee.

Over the following years, Dave and Matt have improved and polished their skills, equipment range and contact allowing the business to take on bigger and better quality jobs.

Many productions later, DMDL use a variety of technologies suitable for a wide variety of events, and although originally a lighting and sound service for theatre, DMDL have expanded into sound recording, live music events and tours.
